SCAS Principal Christina Garsten’s Stay at Tokyo College

SCAS Principal Christina Garsten is currently wrapping up a stimulating three-week stay at Tokyo College,
marked by a mix of academic exchanges and cultural experiences that have made this visit both enriching
and memorable.

A highlight of the stay has been her lecture titled “Transnational Think Tanks: Shaping Futures,” which
delved into the role of US-based transnational think tanks in shaping future narratives through metrics,
imagination, and speculation.

Outside of academic activities, moments of cultural immersion were plentiful. A traditional tea ceremony
provided a beautiful opportunity for reflection and connection, offering a refreshing pause amid a busy
schedule.

Valuable connections were also fostered and renewed with colleagues from Tokyo College and the Univer-
sity of Tokyo, including Professor Naoko Shimazu and Director Takeo Hoshi. These conversations added
both personal and professional depth to the visit.

This journey to Japan has already provided valuable opportunities for both research and collaboration. At
SCAS, we look forward to the fresh insights and inspirations that Christina’s experiences will bring upon
her return.
