Ruby Lal is one of 13 historians longlisted for the 2024 Cundill History Prize,
administered by McGill University and awarded annually to a book "that embodies
historical scholarship, originality, literary quality and broad appeal". The book for
which Lal has been longlisted is Vagabond Princess: The Great Adventures of
Gulbadan
 (Yale University Press). The winner will be announced in the end of
October. 

Ruby Lal was a Fellow in residence at SCAS in academic year 2020-21 and worked
on the final stages of Vagabond Princess during her time at the Collegium.

Michael J. Puett has been appointed new Director of the Harvard University
Asia Center.
He will take office on 1 September, 2024.

Michael Puett is a former Non-resident Long-term Fellow for Programmes in
Anthropological and Historical Sciences and the Languages and Civilizations of East
Asia at SCAS. He was in residence at the Collegium in the spring semester of 2020,
as well as a for month-long stays during a number of consecutive years before that.
