Björn Wittrock has been reelected as member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Max Weber
Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt for another three-year
term. The Max Weber Center is a center of excellence that combines features of an institute for
advanced study with those of a graduate school. The Center was established in 1998 as part of
the process of the refoundation of the University of Erfurt (originally founded in 1379 that had
discontinued its activities in 1816 and was refounded in 1994). The first director of the Center
was Wolfgang Schluchter. He was succeeded by Hans Joas who directed the Center in the years
2002-2011. In 2013 Hartmut Rosa became the director of the Center. The Center is named in
memory of Max Weber who was born in Erfurt in 1864. The Center has an ambition to cover the
range of disciplines to which Max Weber himself devoted his research efforts.
