Vito Laterza (Incoming Fellow 2024-25)
Associate Professor of Development Studies, Department of Global Development and Planning,
University of Agder
Vito Laterza is an anthropologist and development scholar. He has published several journal articles on
the case of the political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica, and used the rich empirical knowledge
from leaks, whistleblowers and commissions of inquiry to develop a philosophical anthropology of
human-technology relations under surveillance capitalism. At SCAS, Laterza will develop this work
into a book monograph that will provide a deeper understanding of the social, psychological, cultural,
economic and political dimensions of the Cambridge Analytica data scandal, and of the ontological
transformations to political behaviour and human agency brought about by social media platforms.
