Oana B. Albu

Oana Albu’s research focuses on digital technology, social movements, and communication studies. She
completed her PhD at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in 2014, and was an Assistant Professor and
an Associate Professor of communication and organization at the University of Southern Denmark during
2014–2017. Between 2014 and 2019, she held several visiting fellowships at the University of Tunis, the
American University of Beirut and Cady Ayyad University in Morocco. Albu is an Associate Editor at the
journal Management Communication Quarterly and the vice-chair (2025–2026) and chair-elect (2027–
2028) of the Organizational Communication Division of the International Communication Association.

The Danish Council for Independent Research and the Danish-Arab Partnership of the Danish Ministry
of Foreign Affairs have supported Albu’s research, which has been published in leading organization and
communication journals, such as Organization and Management Communication Quarterly. Her research
has also been published by reputable publishers such as the SAGE Handbook of Qualitative Research in
Organizational Communication
 and Research in the Sociology of Organizations.. 

At SCAS, Albu will continue to examine how visibility and invisibility created by digital platforms shape
the mobilization of climate movements. She investigates how in/visibility trajectories result from the inter-
play between activists’ practices, the uses and non-use of technology, and the moderation of content on
platforms. This project is advancing research at the intersection of media and communication studies and
contributing to our understanding of how climate movements can navigate the conundrums of in/visibility
on digital platforms.
