The Pro Futura Scientia Programme
As the national institute for advanced study
in the social and human sciences, SCAS feels it has a special
obligation to improve the conditions for younger researchers at
the early stages of their academic careers. In addition to hosting
postdoctoral scholars within its regular fellowship programme
and arranging symposia and summer schools specifically targeting
younger scholars, in 1999 the Collegium initiated the Pro Futura Scientia
Programme, a national effort made possible by the financial support
of RJ (the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation) and STINT (the
Swedish Foundation for International Collaboration in Research
and Higher Education). Between 1999 and 2004, the Collegium has
accepted eight postdoctoral fellows, named Segerstedt Fellows
in honor of the first chair of RJ, Torgny Segerstedt. In 2005,
the programme was expanded with seven more positions honoring
for first 6 chairs of RJ: Torgny Segerstedt, Hans Meijer, Staffan
Helmfrid, Kjell Härnqvist, Inge Jonssson and Stig Strömholm. The
fellows divide their time between their home university and the
Swedish Collegium, and are also able to spend one year abroad
at one of the Collegium's sister institutes or an institute of
a similar type.
